Function and Use: The agency created these records to collect and store information concerning savings associations' corporate structure. It used this information to provide corporate structure data electronically to other agency database systems and to create reports on the thrift industry both from a national and individual institution perspective.
Scope & Content Note: This series contains information on the Federal and state chartered savings and loan associations that have federal insurance or are regulated by the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS). Data came from approved applications for changes in corporate structure, such as mergers, sales or purchases of assets, amendments to charter provision, or charter conversions. The system consists of the three files. The Corporate Structure Tape File has information on the institution as it existed at the last corporate change and includes docket number, institution name and address, charter type, brief history, dates of OTS regulation, insurance type, minority ownership, and assets. The Merger Tape File contains a record for every merger and lists the docket numbers, names and locations for both the surviving and disappearing institutions, assets of the disappearing institution, type of merger, date of merger, and any receiverships or conservatorships. The Asset Change Tape File contains one record for each sale or transfer of facilities, assets, or deposits. For the buyer and the seller, each record includes the docket number, type of charter, and name and address. The file may also list the effective date, type of transaction and value of assets involved.
